The SAT Subject Test in Literature tests how well you can comprehend and interpret English language literary texts from a variety of historical periods and genres. To do well, you need to have a strong background in reading American and British literature. Most students who pass have been reading literature for years. This is not a test for which you can cram. At the same time, just because you are well read, does not mean you will automatically score high.
In our tutoring sessions we review specific strategies for preparing for the SAT Literature Subject test. We cover literary vocabulary essential for understanding questions. We take practice tests that help you understand the strategy behind how the questions are written. We go over how to outwit typical trick questions. And we review strategy for narrowing choices and when to guess. The passages covered in the test come from both British and American works from both poetry and prose. Because poetry is often difficult to understand, we pay special attention to poetic literary devices. The passages come from a wide range of time periods from Renaissance to modern. We review devices used in older works, which may be unfamiliar.
